“Ghosted,” a frothy spy-thriller rom-com in the tradition of “Romancing the Stone” and “The Jewel of the Nile,” is one of the least convincing movies I have ever seen. I mean that “Ghosted” barely seems like a real movie. It has movie stars, in the figures of Ana de Armas and Chris Evans (and, as the villain, Adrien Brody). It has a competent director, Dexter Fletcher, whose hit “Rocketman” wasn’t half-bad. But this tedious, unfunny, screamingly unoriginal romantic adventure film is so flimsy and so insubstantial that it’s practically vaporous.

In the run-up to this year’s Academy Awards, the most talked-about film is one that barely anybody has seen. “To Leslie,” an indie drama about an alcoholic mother seeking redemption, initially grossed only about $27,000 in an abbreviated theatrical release on its way to the video-on-demand market. When Oscar nominations were announced in January, many in Hollywood were surprised to see the film’s star, Andrea Riseborough, on the list of best actress nominees with more expected names Ana de Armas, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh.

After diversity and ethics scandals at the Globes organizer - the Hollywood Foreign Press Association - NBC declined to air the ceremony in 2022, but will broadcast the show this year for its 80th anniversary. It was also nominated for best TV musical or comedy TV series. Gomez, 30, was nominated for her performance as Mabel Mora in Hulu's true crime satire “Only Murders in the Building." The show was also nominated for best musical or comedy TV series. Also joining the club of first-time Latino Golden Globe nominees are Aubrey Plaza, Diego Calva and Diego Luna. Two other young Latinas, Anya Taylor-Joy and Ana de Armas, landed best performance nominations for their leading movie roles.

A federal judge rejected Universal Studios' motion to dismiss a lawsuit claiming it misled fans. Movie fans filed a class action suit in January claiming they were tricked into watching the film. They sued Universal because actress Ana de Armas was in the trailer, but didn't appear in the movie. A California district court judge, Stephen V. Wilson, is letting a class action suit filed earlier this year proceed after Universal Studios asked for it be dismissed. Judge Wilson said that the moviegoers were not given "any value for their rental or purchase", per the filing, and lawyers will meet again for the case in April.
